Drug Free Safety

The  Ohio BWC Drug Free Safety Program (DFSP) is a voluntary program that encourages employers to detect and deter substance use and misuse and to take appropriate corrective action.   It focuses on both safety and drug-free processes to assist employers in establishing and maintaining a safer workplace.

As an incentive, participating employers may be eligible for a discount on their workers’ compensation premiums, based upon the fulfillment of the requirements of the drug free level in which they participate.  There are five basic requirements to each level; in addition to these, each level has its own separate requirements.   The levels of the Drug Free Safety Program are listed below.

Advanced Level

  • 7% Premium Discount
  • Safety Management Self Assessment
  • Accident Analysis Training for Supervisors
  • Safety Action Plan
  • 15% Random Testing
    (in addition to: Pre-employment / New Hire; Reasonable Suspicion; Post Accident; Return-to-Duty; Follow Up)
  • Online Accident Reporting
  • Employee Assistance (EAP)
  • Annual Progress Report

Basic Level

  • 4% Premium Discount
